[...] Speed Up WordPress with Gears Another highly polished combination of audio and graphics. Like the credit crisis piece, this is far more filmic than a typical software presentation. [...]

    • Michael Pick Says:

Depending on the speed of your internet connection and memory/processing power of your computer, you may experience some “buffering”, where the content of the video is cached to the short-term memory of your computer. In that case, pausing the video temporarily will give it time to catch up.

It would be good to get turbo up and running for the current beta of Chrome.

    Hello
I installed gears for firefox linux, I think I installed the offline tool for
wordpress (my account in wordpress.com) but then what?
Services such as goggle docs or zoho have an offline button, which I
    can’t find in wordpress.
Moreover how shall I connect to wordpress when I am offline?

    thanks

    Uwe Brauer

    • Michael Pick Says:

After installing Gears, activate the “Turbo” button found top right of the screen in WordPress if you’re logged in and in the back end. That’s all you need to do. This will speed up general use of WordPress by downloading key files to your computer. However, we don’t at this point offer an “offline” mode as with Zoho/Google docs. I believe this is something the developers would like to add, however.

I dont think that a user-side application can speed up a web application. unless there is somthing to do with java scripts and caching.

    • Yoav Says:

This is exactly how it works: WordPress uses Gears to locally store (cache) files for the blog dashboard.

  9. Reggie Says:

    Michael,

I run several blogs and use Foxfire as my browser of choice, so I was very excited about this add on.

Help me with this. In the video, I see that you downloaded and installed “Google Gears 0.5.4.2″ without problems. When I went to the Google Gears site, I downloaded what I thought was the same file you did, but when I tried to install it I got an error message that said the file was incompatible with the build of browser I am using (Foxfire ver. 3.5.7).

I subsequently was able to install “Google Gears 0.5.33.0″.

Will it perform the same functions as described in your video?”

    Reggie
