If you haven't signed up already, you'll need to click through and sign up for a VodPod account, which takes just a couple of seconds, and then get your widget code. So click through to sign up, which is really, really simple and will only take you a couple of seconds, and once you're done, you can click to get your widget code. Now, the widget over on the right-hand side is a preview, and all you're going to do is generate some code, which is this section here. And you do that just by choosing different selections, such as the size and the color, and how you want your videos to be sequenced. You can also add a different title to the widget, if you want to, give it a custom title, which will appear right up at the top of the widget. Once you're happy with that, select "WordPress.com" from the top up here, and you'll see a little bit of code that you just need to copy to your clipboard, and then bring that back over into WordPress and paste it in this box here. You can also enable the widescreen player, and there's some more information about that, click on Save, and there you are: your videos are now brought into the sidebar of your blog very elegantly. And if someone clicks through, they can actually get the widget from the blog to share it, or watch the video right there from within your blog. And if they prefer to browse your full collection, that's also possible. They can click through down in the bottom, and that will open up your VodPod account. To do that, you'll need to use some basic HTML code, which look a bit like this: here I'm creating a link for an item using HTML. Now, if that worries you or you think, "I don't know HTML at all," I'm going to now show you a quick resource that will help you out with copy and paste examples to get this done really quickly. So as you'll see, with this line here, I've just created a link to my other blog, and if I wanted to create an image, I would use something like this, followed by the web location of the image. All you need to do is give it a title, and then decide if you'd like to sort it by title, by the order that the pages were created, or by page IDs. And we'll look at those in just a moment, because you can also exclude pages from appearing by page ID. And to do that, we just need to find a small number, so go to your Pages section and hover over a page, and in Firefox, you'll see down on the bottom a little number, which you want to copy. If you're not in Firefox, don't worry; just open up the page and you'll see if you scroll right up to the URL in the address bar that same number's there. So, just copy that number across, or any numbers that you want to exclude. I'm going to exclude pages 78 and 79. Next up, I can decide if I'd like to show an image of the link, so people know what they're going to see, if I'd like to show it's name, which is usually a good idea, if I'd like to add a description, which I can also add in the Links section, or a rating if I've added one. Once I've decided, I'll click on Save, and if you don't know where to add your links, go to the Links menu, where you can edit your existing links and put them into categories, or add new ones and start from scratch. That's a pretty simple process,so I'll let you go through that. I'm going to use the one that's connected to my WordPress.com account, and then I can select the size: anything from small, medium, large, to extra-large. And you'll see which one works for you. I can also decide on the alignment, so I might want to center-align or left; I'm going to go with center here. And then, if you'd like to have a link, so that when people click on your face, it takes them somewhere, for instance directly to your blog or anywhere you'd like them to go, you can do that here. Finally, if you'd like to put a little blurb about yourself, or some extra information, you can put that in the text box here and it will appear right underneath the picture. You can also click through to your profile if you want to modify your Gravatar. Once you're done, click on Save to check it out, and here I can see that the center alignment has made it slightly strange, so I'm going to go back and change that to None, and it will fit my default theme's alignment. Right-click on that, and you're going to want to copy the link or copy the link location, as is the case with Firefox. Your browser may have slightly different wording. So copy that, and then paste it into this box that says Flickr RSS URL. Once you've done that, you can select how many photos you'd like to display, and that can be anything from your latest one right up to 10, which I'll show you here. So, save the widget, and you'll now see you've got your photos displayed— the latest, up-to-date ones—in the sidebar of your blog. And should someone click on one, they'll see the full view in Flickr. First, I'll think of a title, and then decide how many categories you'd like to show as a maximum. Now, the least-used categories will appear smaller, and the most larger, and you can decide the percentage of how much more than normal they'll be smaller or larger. So, if I decide that 20 percent is going to be the smallest, they're going to be really tiny, and if I bump this up to 300 the larger categories are going to be huge. If I have sub-categories, I can also decide if I'm going to include them in the parent category, to bump that size up, or have them listed individually. Now, I can see that there's extreme numbers; I've just made the small ones unreadable, and the larger one stretches beyond the sidebar. So let's just tweak that down a little bit; I'm going to go for 200 for the maximum—that's two times the standard size— and 100 for the minimum. So now you'll see it's a lot more standardized, but I can see that Cinema has less posts than Japanese Art, for instance, and Superflat has significantly less than Uncategorized, which has the most. So once you've added the widget to your sidebar over here, you'll just go and get some HTML code by going through a short process that you'll then paste into the box just down here. So let's get started. Click on the link here and then add the files, which I've just sped the process up for here, as well as an email address and password. Then, upload them, and once that's done, you'll be able to start customizing the box, which you can see over on the left. This means that if you have different-sized themes—sidebars, for instance— you'll be able to squish it down or stretch it out, depending on your needs. So I can change things; I can go Basic or Advanced, the color, and also the size. So once I've made my decision on what works for me there, I can also decide on a title. And you want to be careful, because if you put something too long in, like this title here, you'll see that it doesn't really fit in, so I want one a little bit shorter, and now that works. Copy the code when you're happy with what you have, and then paste that into this box here. It's especially useful if you have more than one author. First of all, add a title. Then you can decide if you want to display just the authors that have written a post or include those that have yet to write one, using this checkbox. Then you can decide if you'd like to show a number of posts— this can be set to zero, or anything up to ten—which will then show the latest posts by that author. Finally, you can decide if you'd like to show an avatar—or not— and which size you'd like the avatar to be for each author. When you head to the Appearance » Widgets menu, you'll notice that everything now looks and feels like the rest of the updated WordPress interface. That means the space you have can be used more effectively, and it's easier to tailor it to your needs. However many sidebars you have, you'll now see that they're all stacked up over here on the right, and you can open and close them down to free up space as you need it. The same goes for the windows over on the left here also, which will also resize according to the size of your browser window. One of the things you asked for was the ability to save the details of your widgets even when you change themes, and now you can, thanks to the Inactive Widgets pane just down here. If you change to a theme with its own default set of widgets or a different layout, your previous selections will all be stored down here in the Inactive Widgets panel. You can also use the panel to save items you might want to temporarily save for later use. Also, if you decide you'd like to set up a widget but not activate it right away, you can drag it directly down to the Inactive Widgets pane, and start adding your details. That means that later on, when you decide that you do want to use it, you can drag it straight into your sidebar, and it'll be ready to go. So if I wanted to set up a Pages widget, but didn't quite have the pages ready, I could come back some time later, and then drag them up to the sidebar, and all of the details are there—ready to go. Of course, I can also drag widgets across from one sidebar to another. All of the changes remain intact. Saving of the layout has now been completely automated, so as long as I save a particular widget's details, I don't need to make any more saves. And as it's possible to use multiple instances of the same widget, I can now see my own title next to the title of the widget type.
