I was successfully able to create my first wordpress slideshow today using this tutorial.

Note: The only information that is missing from the step-by-step presentation is when you click on the photo icon, make sure you then are using the “Flash uploader” not the “Browser uploader.”

Thank you so much Jesse. I would never have know or tried this tool if I hadn’t discovered your instructions.

Great tutorial. Are there any configurable options available for the slideshow?

I only see a gallery button, do I have to add a plugin to make it work?

No, but your blog does need to be hosted on WordPress.com. This feature is only available on WordPress.com at this time.

Thanks for letting me know. My WordPress blog is hosted on my own website that’s why the button doesn’t show up. I hope this feature will be soon available for other environments than WordPress.com.

Is there a way to have two different slide shows on the same post?

Great idea. Thank you so much Jesse. I was at sixes and sevens trying to upload presentations into my blog – but the only method was a download link!! Now, it just makes it easy to save a presentation as images and move the PPT into the blog as a slideshow!! – Ananth

Ananth- Glad the image slideshow worked for you. If you want to keep more of a “Power Point” feeling, you can upload your presentation to Slideshare.net then embed that presentation into your WordPress.com blog. Here’s a link with info on embedding Slideshare presentations: http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/slideshare/

Hmm, I think this will make for a good video tutorial. 🙂

Any idea when this will be added to .org self hosted blogs? I thought it would have been on 3.0?

Thank you! The only problem I’m having now is that I already had two photos on the post so when I added the slide show photos and clicked “insert slide show.” I ended up getting those two photos included in the show. Is there anyway to deselect photos that are already in the gallery and only select certain photos for the slide show?

Jesse – how can you insert a slideshow when your site is not hosted by WP ?
I’m guessing that this is the problem since when I upload pics, save and then scroll down to find the slideshow button – it’s not there – I find only ‘insert gallery’ – that works but only gives me a series of pictures, not a slideshow.
    Thanks
    Sue

Hi Jesse, thanks for the screencast. By the way, I love the photos too. My question is does it matter if you are in the visual editor or html mode. I noticed that you weren’t using the visual editor during the screencast.

Hi ileaneb, the process is the same for the Visual and HTML editors. I just tried it to be sure. Glad you enjoyed the photos. 🙂 – Jesse

Hi jesse, I’ve tried to set up a slideshow on my blog and the slideshow works well but I have thumbnails appearing on my blog posts aswell as the picture I’ve inserted in my post. How do I get rid of the thumbnails and just have the pictures on the post and main page slideshow. (As extra info my slide show is a part of my blog theme I don’t know if that makes a difference)

Hi this seems like great info and it seemed so easy, but since we don’t have an insert slideshow option when weI insert images do you have any other suggestions?

Sounds like you might be running a self-hosted version of WordPress, rather using WordPress.com (which this video was made about). It’s worth heading to the Plugins> Add New menu, where you’ll be able to search from some slideshow alternatives

Hi Jesse, thanks for the video.

I have the Modularity Lite theme, and I am trying to make a slideshow like the one WP published http://modularitylitedemo.wordpress.com/. However, I cannot make my pictures looks wider (complete width of the page). Can you help me with that?

    Thank you very much

For people with a self-hosted version I would suggest to download the NextGen Gallery plugin and the JW Image rotator. This is really great stuff. Please check out the sidebar of my website to see the result.

Does this same technique work for inserting a slideshow into a website page rather than a blog?

I don’t have a self hosted wordpress blog, it’s a regular wordpress.com blog and I do not have a ‘Insert slideshow’ button. Please help, I would love to have a slideshow of my paintings.

I’m finding that my usual technique of simply pasting the URL from Flickr into the post works sometimes, but not always. Which is infuriating since this is by far the simplest way of displaying slideshows and maximising exposure.
It works fine with other hosts, and there are options for size and alignment.

If you have a slideshow at the top of the post, how do you insert individual images in the body of the post? No matter where I put my cursor and click Insert Into Post, it puts the image in the slideshow above.

How do you add more pictures into a slideshow created like this? When someone created my website for me they used this old way. The new way is a whole lot easier but this one page is still done the old way and I can’t figure it out.

I guess the only thing I would add, is that to save space on WordPress.com, I would create my slide show on my Mac (Photo app), add the captions, and export it to my YouTube account, and then get that link, and link it as a YouTube video. But you would not have the feature of stopping/pause, and the directional arrows. Nice post Jesse.

Heya this is somewwhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.

I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to gget advice from someone with experience.
Any help would be enormously appreciated!

With havin so much written content do you ever run into
any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My site has a lot of completely unique content
I’ve either created myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the
internet without my permission. Do you know any methods to help prevent content from being stolen? I’d truly appreciate
    it.

Currently it seems like Expression Engine is the preferred blogging platform out there right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog?
