Nei (molti) file che compongono WordPress si trovano molte gemme, alcune delle quali poco conosciute ed utilizzate. Lo scopo di questo talk, utilizzando come pretesto alcune funzioni, è quello di invitare gli sviluppatori a non ritenere WordPress una «black box», ma sfruttare il suo essere open source e «guardare sotto al cofano».

April 18, 2016 — Es gibt kaum welche im deutschsprachigen Raum, die sich besser mit WordPress auskennen und sich für eine spontane Frage- und Antwort-Runde auf eine Bühne trauen: Dominik, Konstantin und Pascal tragen mit zusammen über 1.500 Änderungen alleine am WordPress Core seit Jahren zur Entwicklung von WordPress bei. Zwischen Feature-Plugins, der Arbeit an WordPress.com und der Verbesserung der WordPress.org Infrastruktur, sowie Default-Themes und Übersetzungen, gibt es kaum etwas, was die drei noch nicht gesehen haben. Nach einer kurzen Vorstellung und einem Ausblick auf WordPress 4.6 beantworten sie gerne alle Fragen, die ihnen gestellt werden.

April 18, 2016 — This session is about writing code that can easily be tested. By means of negative examples, Thorsten explains what makes code rather hard to test, or even untestable. Each „bad practice“ is first presented in an abstract way, and then illustrated and discussed using one or more concrete PHP and JavaScript code examples. In the end, Thorsten shows how to solve the individual issues at hand, and thus produce testable code—even if you don’t test it yourself.

April 18, 2016 — Der Wolpertinger ist ein bayrisches Fabelwesen. Im Grunde handelt es sich beim Wolpertinger um ein Mischwesen, wie sie bereits aus der Antike bekannt sind. Der WordPress Wolpertinger ist ein Mischwesen aus PHP und Javascript – technisch basierend auf PHP v8js erlaubt er uns Javascript aus PHP-Code heraus auszuführen und dabei die Kontrolle darüber zu haben, wieviel Rechenzeit das JS verbrauchen darf und festzulegen, welche PHP Funktionen/Klassen dem JS zugänglich gemacht werden. Es bietet uns also eine Umgebung in der wir benutzerdefinierten Code ausführen können, ohne die Kontrolle zu verlieren was dieser Code mit unserem Hostsystem macht. In der Session zeigt uns Frank, wie man sich PHP v8js installiert, was es bietet und ein Beispielplugin welches diese Funktionalitäten nutzt.

April 17, 2016 — The basic idea of WordPress was to redefine online publishing with allowing anyone to easily publish their articles. More than 10 years later, we used WordPress as an open source publishing platform to build a website for one of the largest cities in Croatia. I’ll tell you a story of how the city of Rijeka decided to go with open source software and how the people reacted to a fact that everything will be open sourced as well. One of the first large-scale „design in the open“ projects in Croatia is defining standards for future web development. We’re discussing the web design process, sharing knowledge with the public and asking citizens to be a part of the redesign effort. By delivering designs, HTML and CSS, WordPress theme and documents like Content Strategy and Accessibility Guidelines – we’re redefining how the public website should look like. And with the help of WordPress, we’re promoting the power of publishing and transparency. Last but not least – I’ll tell you how the city of Rijeka helped us organize our first WordCamp Croatia in 2015 believing in the power of WordPress.
