June 6, 2019 — The website is live, the invoice has been paid. Game over, right? What if this is actually a beginning, and not an ending of a beautiful business relationship? In this talk we will cover different ways we should stop sabotaging these relationships, so we could start building up a recurring revenue business.
February 19, 2018 — There has never been a time in the history of humanity when it was easier to build cool stuff. But whilst we usually think “building” is a developer trait, everyone in the greater WordPress community is building something. We don’t just build websites or apps: we build relationships, audiences, teams, careers, you name it.
Being a “product person” is a mentality, a mindset. It’s not necessarily something related to “a” product. In this talk, Franz will explain how he applies his identity as a product person to everything he does: identify a problem, sketch, prototype, test, focus on what works, fix or discard what doesn’t, launch, grow, reach the maturity stage. No matter what the product is.
This talk is for everyone in the WordPress community who wants to streamline their processes or become a better product person.
November 11, 2017 — Building a partnership takes an investment of time and energy for both the client & delivery agency. Earlier this year, Sage embarked on an ambitious programme to rebuild its entire online presence. Part of the plan was for a global WordPress multi-site.
This will be a discussion, co-presented by Sage (the client) and Pragmatic (the agency), which will provide a 360 view of a large WordPress project, covering both the technical and non-technical aspects. We’ll talk about the steps you can take when facing a hugely challenging project – facing up to tight timelines and translating multiple desires into a deliverable programme of work. We’ll look at how you can maximise your efficiency during production, leveraging the core functionality that WordPress provides and building on top of it, and how planning the architecture with an eye on the future can be the key to building partnerships. We’ll hear about the project from the client’s perspective as Sage will talk about their experiences – and from an agency perspective, delivering the work.
There were plenty of challenges along the journey on both sites – creating a custom WP API in a matter of days, training internal staff on new tools and migrating thousands of posts. But most of all, we’ll look at how we focused on building a partnership – creating trust and efficiency which benefited both sides.

August 9, 2016 — The worst of times can lead to the best of times when we begin to look at our ‘story’ differently
Using the literary concept of ‘the hero’s journey’, this talk addresses what is actually happening when we fall flat on our face, whether at work or in our personal life. It needn’t be quite so humiliating, and it doesn’t have to slow us down. It should take us further. ‘Abysmal’ circumstances can lead to greater success, bigger dreams, better relationships and a stronger sense of self. But, we must have the courage to ride into the storm and the wisdom to understand the true nature of the voyage.
