December 9, 2015 — Good user experience in WordPress themes can make the difference between frustrated or happy users. Yet, it’s often overlooked. A solid user experience can feel just right, creating sound expectations and delight. We still see themes with misleading screenshots and demos. Themes with tons of options and complex setups too. This leaves users with false hopes and countless ways to fail. In this talk, we’ll explore user research, theme setup, theme options and more. By the end, you’ll know what makes up a theme’s user experience, and how to set your users up for success.

December 7, 2015 — In this talk we’ll drop most of the regular box-model in CSS and start exploring flexbox. A new (and native) way to align, order and position elements in css. We’ll be live-coding a theme-page and getting a glimpse into the concrete advantages of using flex over the current techniques.

December 4, 2015 — With the REST API shortly due to be merged into WordPress core, this will be a talk/workshop about advanced theming techniques that allow theme developers to utilise it. The session will take the shape of a background to the WP REST API and how it works, and an exploration of building themes that mix best practice, current theming techniques with pioneering theming techniques of the future.

November 28, 2015 — Currently there are a lot of different front end development tools with lots of interfaces available. As developers and designers, spending time doing repetitive tasks such as database search and replace, plugin scaffolding, asset minificaiton is cognitively expensive and cumbersome. I will be showing how you can use these tools to make the computer do the boring and repetitive tasks, thus automating parts of the WordPress development workflow and saving yourselves time and energy.
