November 17, 2022 — How do you build a European campaign on a boring subject like the Digital Services Act? With Windows 95, of course! A European party asked me to design their campaign and gave me all the creative freedom. I rebuilt Windows 95 in WordPress and CSS, and tell you what the technical and design challenges are in such a big project. How do you translate the client’s desire into a creative website? How do you create a Windows 95 pop-up window with CSS that is also responsive? And what are the challenges in communicating complex topics to the public? I take you on a journey through the process of creating a campaign.

November 17, 2022 — It is estimated that the digital world currently accounts for about 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. To put this number in perspective, that’s more than the entire global aviation industry combined. These emissions are largely caused by the energy required by end-user devices and the data centers that process data on the Internet. Therefore, every page on a Website that you view creates small amounts of greenhouse gas emissions. Fortunately, there are ways in which these emissions can be reduced by Website owners. For example, you can think about improvements like green hosting and optimization of things like loading speed, fonts, redirects, and images. This practical and applied session will cover several examples that attendees can apply immediately the next day to make their Websites more sustainable.
November 17, 2022 — Your website runs on a server. That server uses power. Making your Website more efficient and avoiding unnecessary visits to your Website leads to less power consumption (and maybe even lower costs). This talk explains why it’s also good for your search engine rankings.
