  • A Journey from Page Builders to Blocks in WordPress

    WordCamp Montclair 2025Speakers: Joe Simpson, Jr.

    July 25, 2025 — Is your current approach old and outdated? Haven’t let go of the Classic Editor or traditional theme design and editing techniques? In this interactive presentation, we’ll ‘hike’ through a case study for a site rebuild:
    – Highlight some considerations that occur when transitioning from classic editor/themes or page builders to Full Site Editing (FSE) with Blocks;
    – How do you choose the right ‘equipment’ to design your WordPress sites?
    – Review a comparison matrix for choosing a website tool approach for this project;
    – Determine when it is time to make the switch; and
    – Review a timeline of Gutenberg phases focusing on feature additions through core updates.
    This presentation is perfect for those new to WordPress or those STILL hesitant to switch more than six years into Gutenberg and FSE.

    WordCamp Montclair 2025Speakers: Clare Parkinson, Allie Thorpe

    July 25, 2025 — Allie and Clare are a project manager and a developer working at an agency of 9 FTEs supplemented by partner agencies and trusted contractors. Our agency specializes in open-source websites for non-profits, and has been fully remote since its founding in 2010. We build and maintain WordPress sites, support our clients as they update their content, and work with them to ensure their websites evolve to meet their organizations’ changing needs.

    We’ve developed a team culture that enhances our productivity as well as our individual well-being and professional development. We’ve found that working remotely allows us to bring our best selves to our work, to better serve our clients and each other. We’d love to share some ideas that might work for your team, from how we manage projects big and small to how we cover each other’s time off.

    Allie and Clare will discuss the tools and tactics that our team uses to keep everyone focused and friendly. Allie will speak from the project manager’s point of view, with insight into scheduling, estimating, and resource allocation, and Clare will describe how our team works from the developer’s perspective – technical approaches and tools in use by our agency. We’ll demonstrate various apps and services that facilitate remote collaboration, how we use them, and the strategies and processes we use for developing relationships when we’re all in different places.

  • The Heart of Customer Support

    WordCamp Johor Bahru 2025Speaker: Faisal Ahammad

    July 25, 2025 — With extensive experience as a Customer Success Agent at Saturday Drive Inc. (Ninja Forms) and previous roles as a Support Engineer at Elegant Themes (Divi), OnTheGoSystem LTD (WPML), and Client Success Representative at SiteCare LLC, I understand the critical role that exceptional customer support plays in business success.

    Research shows that 72% of happy customers share their positive experiences with six or more people. This powerful word-of-mouth can drive growth, while bad customer service can spread like wildfire. A staggering 89% of customers feel frustrated when they must repeat issues to multiple representatives, highlighting the need for seamless communication.

    Additionally, 85% of consumers are willing to pay more for a great customer experience, emphasizing the importance of investing in support teams. However, it’s crucial to remember that only 1 out of 26 unhappy customers will voice their complaints; the rest may simply walk away without feedback. Creating an environment where customers feel valued is essential.

    Offering self-service options—such as blog posts, public forums, and YouTube tutorials—can empower customers to resolve issues on their own, reducing frustration. Furthermore, online reviews are 12 times more trusted than traditional marketing efforts, making it vital to encourage satisfied customers to share their experiences.

    In my session at WordCamp Johor Bahru, I will share actionable strategies to create a stellar customer support experience that not only retains clients but also transforms them into passionate advocates for your brand. Let’s ensure every interaction counts!
