December 7, 2017 — Just over a year ago, Washington State University received a complaint through the Office of Civil Rights that some of our web pages were not accessible. This talk will cover the steps we took to address the complaint, how we started to grasp where 5 million URLs were published, and what processes and open source tools we have in place to ensure that web accessibility is our top priority.

In this talk I will give you an overview of useful test tools, how to use them and how to integrate testing your development workflow. Also, I will give you tips on additional testing that can’t be automated, like using your site with only keyboard.

October 8, 2017 — The web plays a lot of roles in modern life. It’s a world wide network designed to be available and accessible to everyone. The types of people, their range of abilities, and their types of devices are quite diverse. How can we, as developers, impact this diverse user base? How can we make the web a better place? The approach we use to develop our code can have a significant impact. That approach is the combination of accessible design and progressive enhancement.

Veeenga vale, ya voy en serio. Quiero animaros a venir con ganas de aprender y a ser un poquito más humanos y a ser más empáticos, porque con independencia de nuestra profesión o de si sabemos más o menos sobre algo, todo se mueve por las personas. ¡Uno para todos y todos para uno!

Siempre me gusta mencionar una frase de la película de Forrest Gump: “La vida es como una caja de bombones, nunca sabes lo que te va a tocar”. Por eso es importante valorar las cosas.

We’ll take a quick look at the laws around accessibility so they don’t sound so scary. Then we’ll go over the basics of making accessible WordPress websites from the perspective of both design and development. We’ll go over practical examples of accessibility requirements. Finally, we’ll discuss tools you can use to help you get comfortable thinking about accessibility and testing for it on any website, including your next project.

September 28, 2017 — 近年、アクセシビリティ確保を品質基準とする取り組みは、ウェブサイトだけにとどまらず、ウェブサービスやアプリケーションなどにも広がってきています。WordPressも例外ではありません。WordPressにはアクセシビリティチームがあり、W3Cのガイドライン「WCAG 2.0」レベル AA準拠を品質基準とすることを発表しています。このセッションでは、国内外のウェブアクセシビリティの最新動向、今のうちに再確認しておきたいアクセシビリティ確保の基本の「キ」をシェアします。

September 27, 2017 — L’accessibilité numérique, c’est proposer aux internautes en situation de handicap, que ce soit au niveau moteur, visuel, auditif ou cognitif, un accès au web et une navigation optimale quel que soit leur équipement.

On pense parfois (quand on y pense) que l’accessibilité est un ensemble de techniques à mettre en place au moment de l’intégration et du développement… mais non 🙂 En réalité, intégrer le concept d’accessibilité commence dès la conception et le design graphique !

Nous verrons comment se préparer une checklist pour tous ses projets : style guide, avec notamment le design des éléments de formulaires et leurs différents états, les contrastes des couleurs, l’utilisation des images, des pictogrammes, les menus d’évitement…

Ainsi, dès l’ouverture de Sketch, Photoshop, Affinity Designer ou de votre outil préféré, n’oubliez plus les fondamentaux de l’accessibilité. Au niveau de l’intégration et du développement, nous verrons comment intégrer à notre workflow les bonnes pratiques et mettre en application le design accessible qui aura été préparé.
