December 31, 2019 — It’s no secret that one of the WordPress core team’s greatest barriers to entry is contributors feeling like they don’t have anything of value to offer; nothing could be further from the truth.
Every potential contributor has something to offer whether they realize it or not, and this session will give them many of the tools and advice they’ll need to succeed in helping to influence the future of WordPress.
Topics covered: entry points for contributors of all levels, whether they’re developers, designers, copywriters, or everyday users. We’ll briefly cover the process of joining the “Making WordPress” community, methods to have your voice heard, submitting patches and keeping trac tickets moving, bringing core down to the local community level, and more.
June 19, 2019 — The Italian WordPress community was dormant for years, until a bunch of people got together at WCEU Contributor Day in Seville, in 2015, and decided it was time to revive it.
After months of online chats in our Slack team, we organised an event that kick-started an avalanche of Meetups and WordCamps in Italy: a stand-alone Contributor Day.
Four years later, Italy has more than 30 active Meetups, 6 cities with WordCamps in planning stages, and a great number of Contributors across the project.
In this talk, I’ll go through the steps we took to organise it and I will also talk about Contributor Nights, special Meetup events where we concentrate on one of the Make teams and learn how to contribute from scratch.
March 31, 2017 — How translation sprints helps bring in new contributors!
December 28, 2016 — I have contributed since 2009 to WordPress and related projects. I have done some great things for WordPress like rewriting the image manipulation API and leading GlotPress for a long while. But I had also issues during the time where I also got kicked out of GlotPress.
During this talk I will tell my honest story about how things got started till what I’m doing today.
December 11, 2016 — Contributor Panel with Michael Arestad, Gary Pendergast, Joe Dolson, Taco Verdonschot and Tina Kesova
September 12, 2016 — We as developers use WordPress on a day to day basis – implementing client projects, writing plugins, launching services. And yet, the number of us who spend time participating in Core development directly is significantly low.
Why is that? Is it only a lack of time or are there other more sensible reasons that keep developers from helping out? My session will deal with the hurdles to overcome, philosophies, code quality and how you can benefit from contributing – an investigative experience report from a young Core contributor.
