October 9, 2018 — I started working with WordPress in 2006 when I first discovered it. Back then you couldn’t even set a static home page for your site and it was still targeted as a tool mostly for blogging. Nevertheless I fell in love with the ease of use and the flexiblity of extending it through plugins. After some experience as a frontend engineer, mostly for .NET projects with a small and then a big agency, I ended up coding WordPress projects at the big agency. September 24, 2018 — In this talk I plan to outline my journey from a self-confessed WordPress novice to a WordPress Specialist, with challenges I’ve found along the way, as well as where I see myself going from here. Taking a humorous approach, I’ll look at how ‘on paper’ you’d never expect me to be doing what I’m doing now, but now that I’m doing it I can’t see myself ever doing anything else. I’ll talk about agency life and why it should be fun, and will also share the tools I have found useful and give my opinions on how to get the best out of WordPress. I see this talk being useful not only for those wanting to progress with WordPress, but also for agency owners to consider how to grow their staff and get the most potential from them. Plenty of jokes and silly pictures included.

August 8, 2018 — A brief insight into how I started developing with WordPress, from editing child themes with next to no idea about what I was doing, covering all the way up to the way I develop with WordPress today.

Covering the pitfalls and ‘ah-ha’ moments that I’ve experienced learning about how WordPress works, and what resources I’ve used to learn more about WP development over the last 5 years. This includes build tools, IDEs and coding standards, learning that doing work without a local dev environment is a terrible idea and how the WordPress community can help immensely.

Also looking into the future for WordPress and how the REST API opens doors for more than just WordPress development, and what it means for current developers looking to up their skill set but aren’t sure where to start.

July 25, 2018 — What could be the benefit of being part of the WordPress Community if you don’t even use WordPress? How far can you get if you decide to step out of your comfort-zone and overcome your fears?

My husband dragged me kicking and screaming to my first WordCamp. I did not even know what WordPress was up to that point and I was scared of meeting the “nerdy” part of my husband’s life probably due to not being able to get involved.

The story I want to share is about how things evolved afterward, as I visited several WordCamps as a passionate volunteer to the point of getting a true WordPress Community-Junkie. It is about how I became a WordCamp organizer, speaker and emcee in almost no time. It is about how I found new enjoyable professional challenges.

It is the story about how I have been changing my life completely in only one year, because I dared to step out of my comfort-zone.

June 11, 2018 — In my presentation, I will discuss the benefits and why’s of being a mentor and mentee. I will further promote why mentorship is absolutely crucial for our industry thrive, including my personal experience of being mentored.

Viewing code as a trade skill, I will also share how to be establish these meaningful relationships for both parties involved. My goal is to inspire and motivate my audience to take action and incorporate mentorship in their daily developer lives — what better way than to start now at the conference?

June 4, 2018 — Go on the journey of a “mere mortal” (someone without a computer background) on how they learned WordPress, designed two business sites and opened an on-line store with Woo Commerce. Your trip guide will take you through the WP basics, identify tripping and stumbling points, direct you to where to get information, introduce you to the language of WordPress, where to “hotel” your site, and overview safety tips for your journey.
