March 29, 2017 — My topic will be centered on ways to customize WordPress posts, pages and custom templates with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) for a better user experience. I will start out by giving a brief introduction to the plugin and how to use it, but the main focus will be on tips and tricks to making your fields clean and organized so that your users don’t freak out when looking at the backend of all their posts, pages or custom templates that use numerous custom fields.

The topic will be WordPress backend heavy, with a little bit of development talk to describe how to create fields in templates during the brief introduction to the plugin.

January 16, 2016 — Many new users of WordPress are confused with and when pages are used and when posts are used. Are posts made to pages? Are posts pages in a site or blog? It’s such a mystery. In my session, we will solve the mystery of pages vs. posts with the help of Scooby Doo and the gang from Mysteries Inc.

Well go through step by step what each are and why and when they should be used. We’ll uncover clues and put those clues together to solve the mystery once and for all. We’ll even enjoy some Scooby Snacks along the way. Zoinks! Totally not kidding.

Learning Outcomes:

– Attendees will have a clear understand of what pages are for, what posts are and do and when either should be used and how.

September 11, 2015 — There is so much confusion about what types of things should be put on a page and what should be in a post. Static vs. Dynamic content is the best way to tackle this. An “About Us” page would be just that… A PAGE. If you are talking about something that is more time sensitive, then you want to do a post. Connected to this would be Categories and Tags. What are they? When creating a website, you can edit a menu to include not only pages, but also category archives that can create a more complete experience for small businesses. This is not just how to do it but WHY you should do it. This gives an in depth look at the justification for placement of content on your website and way finding.
