Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
A technical sidebar — going full screen with this screencast crashes my browsers. Using Firefox 3.0.5 and Safari 3.2.1 with Adobe Flash Player 10.0.2.54 on OS X 10.5.6. Not sure if this is happening for other people, but just a heads up.
January 23, 2009 at 6:51 am |
Thanks for the heads up, Roger – I’ll make sure this is looked at
January 25, 2009 at 10:53 am |
These videos were fun to watch… some music going will treat it nicely… glad they made this video.
January 25, 2009 at 8:51 pm |
Is it just me or is the sound on this video VERY low… ?
(ItΒ΄s a pity because it seems to be a pretty good tutorial)
January 27, 2009 at 10:07 pm |
Sam’s shouting all the way from Australia so that’s why it’s just a touch quiet.
January 29, 2009 at 7:53 pm |
Really nice tutorial… I was wondering if there could be any chance of you doing a tutorial like this but for wordpress mu instead?
January 30, 2009 at 4:51 am |
Hi Alex – we’ll hopefully have some MU-focused content in the not too distant future
January 30, 2009 at 3:29 pm |
Nice tutorial, but the audio is indeed very low and voice of Sam Bauers was annoying me. He is to tranquil. Next time, take some uppers or dont use the downers before recording a screencast π
February 1, 2009 at 8:18 pm |
Thanks Bauer for the very informative video..
Could you please also make a tutorial for integrating the forum in the wordpres blog..
I mean in terms of look… with header and footer of wordpress and the forum comes normally like integrated in the wordpress.. like on bbpress website.
February 3, 2009 at 1:01 am |
I take it that how you actually used example.org was via hostfile. correct?
February 3, 2009 at 9:30 am |
great tutorial
February 3, 2009 at 2:42 pm |
Very interesting, its a feature im going to use soon on WordPress.
February 8, 2009 at 8:28 am |
Bauer, no reply.. can someone else help me..i wanna integrate my bbpress and wordpress to look like a part of same website.. i mean the theme integration.
February 9, 2009 at 6:45 am |
Sorry Staxx, can’t do much about my voice. I didn’t script the screen-cast, which explains most of the unusual pauses. The audio could have been louder I suppose, but was audible on my laptop.
Kuldeep, there is no straight-forward way to do what you are asking. I recommend that you create a bbPress theme to match your WordPress blog. You should probably take your question to the bbPress forums for specific help.
links2funblog, that’s right.

I seem to be have a lot of problems with plugins. Is there a list of plugins that are compatible with this configuration? I’ve had a lot of trouble with even the simplest of plugins, constant errors and pains.
February 20, 2009 at 9:27 am |
Simply superb integration steps and very nice tutorial. I though i would have figured it out myself but the cookies integration part in the video made me watch the whole video. Impressed. Thank you very much for sharing.
February 20, 2009 at 2:15 pm |
Great tutorial, thanks. Just wondering, is this integration tutorial purely for people wishing to test the bbPress alpha build? I’m developing a website which is close to launch and I’d much rather use WordPress and bbPress than try to use WordPress and phpBB3 bridged together with a hack (such as WP-Unified) – but then the bbPress download page states that the current bbPress alpha build is not recommended for live sites.

Why is the quality so so bad on Full Screen. Why not host it on VIMEO as HD.
just my 2 cents. GREAT TUTORIAL!
February 25, 2009 at 7:33 pm |
We have HD of our own, but the source video needs to be in HD in the first place for it to kick in. This one wasn’t I’m afraid. For those that are, you’ll see the HD On button top right.

It’s the first time I commented here and I should say that you share us genuine, and quality information for other bloggers! Great job.
p.s. You have a very good template . Where have you got it from?
March 14, 2009 at 6:07 pm |
Well done. Great step-by-step tutorial. Thank you.
March 15, 2009 at 4:08 pm |
I just get a bunch of errors, I tried bbpress forums and wordpress forums, no luck. Maybe bbpress doesn’t like my wordpress install.
In case you are curious, all errors point to class.bpdb.php, I have no clue what to do with that file.
For now I’m using bbpress without integration, I like bbpress better than other option out there.

Hi,
thanx for nice video tutorial.
How about WPMU 2.7, please?
thanx
March 22, 2009 at 10:40 pm |
YEAH, great!
I have integrated it with WordPress MU (WPMU) 2.7 π
with just a very little tweaking of the tutorial here π
many thanxs

Sam Bauers… If Elvis was alive he would call you the king!
Very good screen cast … nice and relaxed.
March 30, 2009 at 9:03 pm |
buzz_lightyear, what were your tweaks? I’ve followed the tut, but can’t stay logged in from wpmu to bbpress, although bbpress found my wmpu users. To add to the drama, I’ve got buddypress thrown in.
April 6, 2009 at 1:15 am |
I’ve had the same problem as you zenseeker. I guess we’re not integrated?!
April 22, 2009 at 2:09 am |
I followed the video and it was incredibly informative. I now have WordPress and bbPress fully integrated.
When I click on the forums page in WordPress it opens bbPress. Woo hoo.
I just can’t figure out how to get back to WordPress.
April 30, 2009 at 9:29 am |
Can’t wait to see the MU tutorials soon.
I bought an ebook, which helped I got it installed, but with many errors, and issues.
I followed this video and got bbpress working, but I would like to see it work within the wordpress theme itself, not another window, different theme.
Im currently using a forum plugin that works nicely, but is there a way to get bbpress to look like its in my blog site itself.
How that was not too difficult of a rambled support issue. ( LOL)
June 7, 2009 at 6:27 pm |
Is it possibly to have this explained for “normal” people who are new to wordpress?
is this the only tutorial for this?
π
June 7, 2009 at 10:51 pm |
We currently have just the one bbPress tutorial – expect to see more in future!
June 23, 2009 at 5:48 pm |
I don’t know how they could make this tutorial any more simple!!! Thank you so much for this tutorial, after I followed step-by-step, everything worked perfect! Except my comments….
June 23, 2009 at 5:46 pm |
Help! After installing bbPress and following this VERY HELPFUL video, my “Leave Comment” link at the bottom of every page now links to my forum. How can I put my comments back on my page? I want my users to be able to leave comments specific to the pages on my site…
September 19, 2009 at 7:21 pm |
Hey, Danielle. Did you get this resolved? If so, how?
June 26, 2009 at 5:35 pm |
I need help!
Using BP 1.0.1, none of the tutorials out there seem to match what I see, and the screencast above only says “Embedding disabled by author”.
Where can I get the screencast?
July 1, 2009 at 6:14 am |
Great tutorial, the first time I tried this integration, it was a complete mess, but you made it seem so simple. π
Thank you for this tutorial, I’ll be using it soon.
August 6, 2009 at 6:57 pm |
Works perfectly with bbpress-1.0.2 and wordpress-mu-2.8.2.
Thank you!
August 15, 2009 at 7:11 pm |
Great tutorial! You’ve made it seem so simple (which it surely is with your clear directions) that I feel I must give this a try! A question though, you said you can’t integrate the latest bbPress build with WordPress. However, oOnce the integration is done, are you safe to upgrade to the latest build? Or will that break the integration?
August 17, 2009 at 1:59 pm |
Actually, now that bbPress has passed version 1.0, the integration will work just fine with the current stable version of bbPress.
August 18, 2009 at 1:16 am |
Thanks Ryan! I’m going to build a stock blog and give this integration a shot. It doesn’t look too complicated, and it is definitely something that at least one of my clients might be interested in (assuming bbPress’ ecosystem continues to mature as a viable forum architecture).
September 11, 2009 at 1:59 am |
Do we still need integration with WP 2.8.1 and above?
Thanks.
September 11, 2009 at 2:27 am |
Yes. You’ll still have to follow the integration steps to get the two to work together hand-in-hand.
September 11, 2009 at 2:15 pm |
Is it easy to integrate it with my WP site? I will be doing it for the first time.
Thanks.
October 16, 2009 at 1:18 am |
Im on 10.5.6 Ok for me…..
October 19, 2009 at 1:42 pm |
Worked well for me too. Thanks for making it so easy.
October 30, 2009 at 10:23 pm |
Hi, great video, thanks for the good work!
November 2, 2009 at 4:56 pm |
Couldn’t have made it easier if he wanted to. Good job.
December 9, 2009 at 4:03 pm |
just missing the integration of the wordpress header & footer and it’ll be just perfect!!
December 10, 2009 at 7:24 pm |
Missing the integration of the header and footer? How? Did you use your WP template on BB too?
January 12, 2010 at 9:56 am |
thanks. can u also make tutorial about the theme? i want to match my wordpress blog theme and the forums.
January 13, 2010 at 6:14 pm |
@jb that might be possible using the same CSS for your theme and the forums.
February 12, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
I received this error after I installed the bbforum as advised on the video:
Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in D:\Program Files\xampplite\htdocs\wordpress\forums\bb-settings.php on line 186

What can I do to fix this. Could this be b/c I didn’t add the database collation in the wp-config file? Also, I did receive some php errors during the installation file but they didn’t hinder me to install bbpress.

Yeah, I forgot to thank you for the wonderful tutorial! π
February 14, 2010 at 10:46 am |
This is good information, I was wondering if ever i would get some information on integrating a forum on my WordPress blog and here I have a video, thanks a ton!!
February 27, 2010 at 7:35 am |
Works Perfectly! Thank you very much for the great tutorial.
May 11, 2010 at 9:07 pm |
I’m impressed..nice blog design. keep up the good work!
August 13, 2010 at 12:28 pm |
Thanks mate for one of the best tutorials Ive watched, took me a few goes to get the database hooked up but its working nicely now.
Great work!
Cheers
November 27, 2010 at 10:37 pm |
Just hope that we’ll have some updated video for WP3.0.1
December 11, 2010 at 7:42 am |
Thank you Sam it worked perfectly. The only suggestion I have vs the video, if your options screen does not have the salt keys, just look in the the wp-config.php file. Otherwise everything was perfect.
February 20, 2011 at 4:07 pm |
Wow…thanks a million…:)
May 19, 2011 at 6:13 am |
Still very helpful information, even though I seem to be a few years late in picking it up! TY
May 23, 2011 at 9:03 pm |
Very very useful. Thanks so much for doing this, really helped out a ton!
