Software is getting slower more rapidly than hardware becomes faster. This is as true today as it was in 1995 when windows, pop-up menus, and pretty icons were making it hard for people to freely type basic text documents. Our computers and networks are faster but we still struggle to type those documents. Increasing server density and the onslaught of AI demands only highlights the problem more: we have to do more with less.
WordPress is responding to this need with a family of streaming APIs for processing text, HTML, CSS, and Blocks. Streaming means being able to handle large documents in small chunks, or being able to process documents of any size within the same limited amount of resources. It also means being able to set arbitrary limits of time, latency, and robustness of processing.
Come see in this talk how to use these new APIs and which ones are coming next, why they are important and which values lead their design, and hopefully discover some new way to more capably interact with structured content on the server without blowing the budget.
Talk is intended for developers working with PHP, HTML, and/or blocks.
