August 6, 2018 — Learn some fundamentals of accessibility and how it can benefit you (whether future you from aging or you after something else limits your abilities). We’ll review differing abilities, generate (minimal) user stories and personas, discuss best practices for design and development, prototype some ideas (on paper), and discuss where to get help. This isn’t intended to be a deep dive into technologies, but more of an overall primer for those who aren’t sure where to start with accessibility nor how it helps them.

July 16, 2018 — Despite the enforcement of the “Act for Eliminating Discrimination Against People with Disabilities,” the actual workflow of web development has not, unfortunately, implemented the requirements properly. People find difficulty in changing how they develop things, due to various reasons.
In this session Hiroki will share the best-practices in team development and theme coding, so that the audience can see it’s not a special and difficult task to implement them.

本セッションでは、WordPressの自作テーマ制作やプロジェクト進行のアクセシビリティ対応のポイントを挙げながら、参加者（＝制作者）にとってアクセシビリティ対応が特別なことではなく、難しいことでもないと認知していただくとともに、まずは簡単に対応でき、日々の制作に活かせる情報をお伝えすることを目的とします。

July 15, 2018 — According to the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy, 21 percent of adults in the U.S. read below a 5th grade level. While we are making great strides towards a web that is accessible to everyone, this population still remains largely under-served. How can we modify our understanding of “digital a11y” to include users with literacy challenges? This session will begin with a broad discussion of accessibility, for those who may be new to the topic, and then move into what we can do to meet the needs of specific users, with a focus on those who can’t read, read poorly, or read English as a second language. Participants will engage in a series of exercises designed to illustrate the importance of website accessibility, build empathy and understanding for multiple user communities, and develop skills to make more useful websites.

In this taIk I would like to show the most common problems in the web in terms of accessible design and give an overview over good practices and also over potential conflicts between different accessible needs and how to deal with them.

In the talk I will show you tools and resources to that will help you to design accessible websites and also how to integrate accessibility from the beginning into the design process.

June 20, 2018 — In this session, we examine the NC State Accessibility Helper, a homegrown plugin that makes accessibility testing a part of WordPress. We will discuss common issues reported by users of assistive technology and how those issues are introduced when creating content. We will then discuss how our plugin addresses these issues using an open source accessibility testing engine called aXe.

April 27, 2018 — Het zijn vaak de kleine dingen die je website onbruikbaar maken voor mensen die een bepaalde beperking hebben. In vogelvlucht brengt Jules je bij hoe bijvoorbeeld mensen niet kunnen zien of geen muis kunnen gebruiken toch een website kunnen gebruiken. Ik breng je bij welke problemen sommige bezoekers kunnen ervaren. Je krijgt tips hoe je zelf eenvoudig je website of je template kan controleren op een aantal belangrijke punten van toegankelijkheid. Wellicht kan je daarmee in de toekomst een betere keuze maken uit de grote hoeveelheid templates die de WordPress-gemeenschap je biedt.

Affronteremo la tematica sia dal punto di vista generale, che nell’ambito della piattaforma WordPress, illustrando metodologie, strumenti e best practices per sviluppare un sito “realmente fruibile da tutti”.
