October 21, 2023 — Stellt euch vor: „Die 12 goldenen Regeln des User Interface Design“ – Jede Regel ein Meilenstein auf einer Erkundungsreise durch die unergründlichen Tiefen der UI-Design-Welt. Und ich bin euer Reiseleiter auf diesem Abenteuer, gewappnet mit umfassendem Wissen, praktischen Beispielen und wertvollen Tipps, die direkt auf WordPress anwendbar sind.
Aber keine Sorge, wir werden es nicht überstürzen. Wie bei einer gemächlichen Wanderung durch eine wunderschöne Landschaft nehmen wir uns die Zeit, jeden Aspekt, jede Regel in Ruhe zu betrachten, zu analysieren und zu verstehen, bevor wir zum nächsten übergehen. Mein Ziel ist es, den Teilnehmer*innen nicht nur theoretisches Wissen zu vermitteln, sondern ihnen Werkzeuge in die Hand zu geben, die sie sofort in ihre eigenen WordPress-Projekte einfließen lassen können.

June 17, 2020 — This talk will help designers, developers, and owners approach their software project, such as a WordPress website, from the perspective of “product” and context of use of “users”, with a 7-pronged cyclical strategy that accommodates every aspect of user experience design. By the end of this workshop, the audience will come at a website with content suitable for defined users informing their choice of design, that is “theme”, rather than bend a “theme to their will”. They may thus be capable of architecting usable, useful, and satisfying software (websites, mobile apps, etc) with WordPress.

August 8, 2018 — As WordPress developers, we should aim for a true user-first strategy to design and develop customised WordPress Installations, and not fall back on ‘premium’ themes, page builders, and one-size-fits-all approaches. So many times I have taken over WordPress websites that look like the original ‘developer’ just chucked the business description into a theme marketplace and bought the first theme on the list (cafe/gym/photographer etc). While this sort of thing can be great for a small business DIYers, it should not be too pervasive in the world of professional service providers.

June 20, 2018 — Whether you’re designing a new website or updating an old one, user-friendliness is key. Large fonts, big buttons, and strategic color motifs make calls to action obvious.

Help users take the actions you want them to. Help website users be happy.

Happy website users convert to happy customers. Happy customers help your business thrive.

December 11, 2016 — Sometimes it seems like the world is full of experiences designed for robots not the humans that use them. Experiences that leave us frustrated, lost and disconnected. That are almost designed to bring out the worst human traits. Shouldn’t we really be focused on creating experiences that connect with users?

Experiences that move, that enable, that allow us to be the best humans we can be. In this talk I’ll look at the problem of design that isn’t created for humans and offer some insight into how we can begin to design for humans not robots.

If you’ve had a user experience designer work with your site, plugin or template, you’ve likely stepped into the second step, usable. The great UX work starts after that, as we strive to climb the ladder to comfortable, delightful and meaningful. Learn ways to think about elevating design for websites, templates and WordPress products for UX success. We’ll also review real-world examples and open up Q&A around design thinking and execution.
