We’ll talk about the different ways developers and end users try to solve problems, where they look to find information, and how you can get ahead of those needs by putting your recommendations in those places. Documentation is an amazing and complex problem that doesn’t end at a wiki full of pages—so let’s talk about how we can use our UI, different ways of phrasing and explaining, and the features we have available in WordPress to be the best teachers we can be.

April 21, 2016 — Thomas möchte uns in seiner Session einen Überblick über den Support seines Plugins Advanced Ads und den dazugehörigen Premium-Erweiterungen geben. Dabei räumt er mit einigen falschen Annahmen auf, die er zu Beginn hatte und die sich als unsinnig herausstellten, zeigt aber auch, welche Herausforderungen sich aus der Situation eines Freemium-Modells über wordpress.org ergeben. Er stellt uns sein aktuelles Setup vor und wie er dazu gekommen ist, d.h. welches Helpdesk er nutzt und welche Features für die Auswahl wichtig waren. Zu guter Letzt möchte er uns Strategien aufzeigen, die ihm helfen, selbst die kostenfreie Version seines Plugins mit 100% Support anzubieten und dabei trotzdem noch ruhig schlafen zu können.

You can write the most amazing code that’s incredibly easy to use, but without a good set of documentation no one beside you will use it! But times are changing. You can have the robots write the documentation for you! Or at least very nearly.
The WP_Parser project has given birth to the incredibly useful developer.wordpress.org/reference site based on the massive amount of internal documentation work that has been going on in core over the last years. This is an exploration of how other developers can take that work and leverage it into their own reference site taking advantage of all of the internal code docs they have already written.
