August 5, 2015 — Lightning Talk by RC Lations
August 5, 2015 — Learn how to leverage psychology in boosting conversion rates on your WordPress website. What makes a site visitor click? What makes a site visitor frustrated and leave? In this session, you’ll uncover key insights into the intersection of human psychology and user experience (UX) and learn to tap into your site visitors’ subconscious to spur them into action.
July 28, 2015 — Mat Marquis shares the tools and techniques that ensure that your content will reach your most demanding (and least powerfully equipped) users, without detracting from the experience of users on the latest and greatest devices—without limiting the creativity of your team, and without a massively inflated deadline. We discuss strategies for smarter asset delivery, techniques for avoiding potential points of failure, and start to cultivate development habits that help us deal with a vast landscape of unknowns from the very start of a project.
July 24, 2015 — In the years I’ve spent making websites for clients I have learned that the importance of admin user experience cannot be under-emphasized. Providing clients with sites they can actually understand, use and be productive with is equally as important as providing something that looks nice on the front end. In this session, we’ll cover some great examples of improving the user experience for clients and walk through specific actions we can take to reduce confusion, improve usability and increase productivity for all /wp-admin users.
July 14, 2015 — Once you’ve installed WordPress, what now? For new users, that’s just one of a multitude of inevitable questions. What’s a post? A page? A theme? Where should I start first? In a short attention-span world, first impressions are everything, and WordPress is making it harder than it needs to be for new users.
There’s a case to be made for helping to guide users through the process of post-install set up. In fact, there’s user testing data that makes the case for us.
The goal of this talk is to examine that test data – taken against existing and potential wp-admin flows – and form conclusions about how WordPress can get out of its own way to improve the new user experience. We’ll talk about solutions that exist in the community right now, and opportunities to get involved in reshaping WordPress’ first impressions.
July 10, 2015 — Why web publishing is so broken. A short look behind the scenes of creating a new kind of editing experience of the web.
July 9, 2015 — This talk is about bringing the principles of user experience design together with the development team to build a stronger and better solution. I’ll be talking about the benefits of user experience design early in the development process and the difficulties we faced implementing the changing user flow into our plugin. Additionally I’ll show the audience of how we used personas, user testing and several use cases based on real life examples using our open-source plugin User Feedback.
June 25, 2015 — This talk introduces the audience to the Informational User Experience design process. Through examples from the web, practical demonstrations, and tips and tricks gleaned from 15 years in the industry, Morten gives the audience a foundation of knowledge that will help them see beyond frameworks, grids, and media queries to what really matters: Communicating ideas through the web.
June 1, 2015 — This talk takes a deeper look into the experience of the WordPress admin – how we can extend WordPress to make publishing content a breeze, and how a few changes to the way we approach the admin, plugins, and themes can help make the experience even better.
April 15, 2015 — The WordPress Administration area is no walk in the park. Just because it’s, perhaps, the most user-friendly of the big CMSs doesn’t necessary make it objectively easy to use. All sorts of things that can seriously break your site are mixed in with trivial options. And, once you start adding robust plugins, things can get complicated fast.
There are many ways to make WordPress more palatable for the common user (see: non-developers) and reduce the risk of big-time accidents. In this session, I’ll show you how easy it is to remove things users don’t need from the admin area—all with your own plugin.
Don’t worry if you haven’t written a plugin before. Not only will I give you the working plugin to start with, but I’ll explain everything along the way.
Let’s make WordPress just a little easier and safer for everyone!
