October 22, 2015 — WordPress is growing every day – from 18% of the web in 2013 to 23% in 2014. In 2014, with the release of WordPress 4.0, international downloads surpassed English downloads for the first time. Some of the largest portions of non English downloads come from countries where English is not an option at all.

For software creators this means that if your product is not localized, it’s not going to be used at all. This talk clarifies the terms internationalisation (i18n) and localisation (l10n) and explains the benefits of writing translation-ready plugins and themes. It also provides advice for small business owners, plugin and theme developers on how to grow their international community and create their product evangelists outside of the English speaking world, which can exponentially lead to product growth alongside the core project.

October 2, 2015 — The WordPress contributor community is a massive ecosystem of volunteers spread across a multitude of teams and timezones. And for anybody who has ever contributed or is looking to contribute, figuring out who the movers and shakers are and how they tie the community together can be a daunting task.

This talk seeks to examine the makeup of the WordPress contributor community to better illustrate the organizational structure of the open source project we love. The idea is to pinpoint who is involved, what they work on, define cross-connections, and determine how they fit into the overall picture of WordPress. The end result is that everyone is closer to being on the same page. Win!

March 10, 2015 — In 2011, Clinton Warren desperately needed to change the direction of his life. He stumbled into web design and an amazing platform that he knew would change the way website were built, maintained, and operated. He started to build a freelance business, became actively involved in the Meetup community, organized the first WordCamp in Connecticut, and founded a WordPress educational business and what is now a 5 person agency.
