December 19, 2019 — Speed matters. People are impatient. If your website or a client’s website doesn’t load quickly – within a just a couple of seconds – many visitors will abandon it completely. A slow site means lost time & revenue. But figuring out how to speed up a slow site can be HARD. Everyone’s got a suggestion and an idea for how to fix your performance issues, but most are just guesses, and not based on real data. STOP GUESSING. If you have a performance issue, or just want a faster site, you need to KNOW exactly what is slowing things down, and how to fix it. This talk will show you how.
December 19, 2019 — The talk for this session had to be cancelled after the website and print materials were published. Larry Gauthier was nice enough to serve as a backup!
December 19, 2019 — There are countless examples of how simple changes have made a dramatic improvement in website performance. Website owners have found that changing the wording on their “add to cart” buttons can increase sales by 30% or even more. Simply changing the imagery or messaging in your hero area has increased online leads by over 100%. You’ll never “guess” your way into a high performing website, you need to run tests and see what performs better. This may sound hard, but it’s really not. In this talk I’ll show you how to start your first and second A/B test. An A/B test is where you test two different variations of the same page. While this may sound complicated it can be done in minutes and without any custom programming through a free tool called Google Optimize.
December 19, 2019 — Do you envy the business owners or writers that seem to crank out content? It’s not easy, but if a self-proclaimed procrastinator can do it, so can you. Find out how author Allison Spooner wrote multiple books using flash fiction and how you can use it to flash your muse and get writing.
December 15, 2019 — Veteran WordCamp Philly speaker Tessa Kriesel will return this year, this time as keynote speaker. She will present “The Art of Building Community with WordPress.”
December 11, 2019 — I am an attorney who has been asked many questions from developers about the legal aspects of using WordPress. I will explain the GPL, explain the legal implications of using WordPress and how that may influence the business aspects of web development.
December 11, 2019 — Everyone says website speed is super important. If your site’s not fast, people leave. Or they’ll never come in the first place, because slow sites don’t show up in search results.
What almost no one talks about is what an average WordPress user can actually do to help site speed — *without* completely nerding out.
In this talk, we’ll skip the fear mongering and geek-speak.
Instead, we’ll go straight to low-tech, actionable tips and tactics *anyone* can use to improve a slow WordPress website. Plus, we’ll cover strategies for avoiding speed problems in the first place
December 10, 2019 — Why would a hacker hack YOUR website? For fun, for glory? Not anymore! Hacking websites is now a monetized criminal enterprise. They don’t care about your website, they care about your website computing resources.
An understanding of what the bad guys know (and how easy it is for them to operate) will motivate you to take a proactive approach to security prior to a hack – instead of spending tens of thousands to get your data back after the fact.
