The solution is simple: use a staging site – a private copy of your site where you can safely test updates and resolve problems before your users ever experience an issue.
I’ll guide you across a number of ways to create a staging site depending on your specific needs, performing these updates, and then applying these updates to your main site. You’ll leave with a concrete plan for how to set up your own staging site, and will fear the update process far less!
December 24, 2019 — I’d love to share on brand building and the importance of understanding how, and why, to approach branding for any business. I think it is super valuable for business owners (and freelancers) to have a holistic understanding of what branding really is, what it encompasses, why they should pay credence to it, and how they can go about doing that.
If I was to outline the talk with a blurb it would be something like this:
“When we think of branding we almost always immediately think of the visual representation of a brand. The logo, the typography, the stationery. Obviously, the visual representation is a major part of it but a brand is so much more than what can be seen. It is essential to understand the importance and power of what branding does for a business and why you should care about yours a lot more than you probably do.
No matter what sector you’re in or what audience you are trying to reach, your branding matters. And not just a little bit.
In this presentation, you’ll find out what branding is and why it impacts everything you do in business.”

On top of that I’ll take you through learnings and strategies I have picked up over the years trying to move away from selling my skills per hour (not-scalable) and selling my skills by the collection of my experience (scalable)
December 21, 2019 — Variable fonts represent an innovation that is changing the history of typography and web design. Excellent for optimizing performance and responsive design, the format has a great potential for optimal typography and creative use. In a single file a typographic arsenal waiting to be used.

December 21, 2019 — The most 3 typical questions that people ask to me when they realize that I work in the cybersecurity field are:
– How to know if I’ve been hacked
– What to do when this (s**t) happens
– How I can avoid it.
By displaying a little horror gallery with some examples gathered during the years I’ve been working at Sucuri, I will show how a hacked site looks like, helping hopefully to train a little bit your eyes to know where to look at, and some tips to help to detect anomalies ASAP.
Once something bad is detected, there is a recommended checklist of countermeasures to fight against them and avoid future re-infections.
December 21, 2019 — I was the release lead for WordPress 4.5, and a Media focus lead for 5.3. The project has significantly changed the way releases have run, moving from a single lead to many. Come to learn more about how WordPress releases are run and direction of organization in the WordPress project.
December 20, 2019 — There’s a lot about modern networking that we all should un-learn. Showing off your knowledge and targeting the “important” connections is the wrong approach. If you genuinely want to be an effective networker, you have to shift away from looking at these interactions as transactional. That said, it’s still hard to find people to talk to, and even harder to know to start up a conversation. I’ll give you tips that will help you work through those issues and ultimately make you more comfortable in new spaces with new people. You’ll come away from this presentation with advice you can put to use immediately.
