December 5, 2016 — Pro bono work is fun and rewarding. It is also a great way to level up your WordPress prowess and reputation, either as a freelance developer or as part of a digital agency. When you give back to society, you receive back as much, if not more.

In this talk, you will find real world examples of pro bono dev projects I’ve done over the years, how they solve different set of problems for the beneficiaries, and how they level up my skill set as a web designer and developer. I will also share some of the other good things I’ve gained by doing it, and it’s not just about having a better-looking portofolio.

So, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just a starting out WordPress professional, you’ll probably end up having plenty of good reasons to do pro bono work from time to time for the personal, professional and social benefits it brings.

November 21, 2016 — One can have many reasons to form a WordPress agency. At required+ we didn’t think about becoming an agency in the first place. Initially we teamed up to build an online platform that scratched an itch in all of us, we simply wanted to try and prove a point with the idea we had. All of a sudden we were running a thriving job board for the Swiss web industry and had a beautiful side project to work on. In order to keep our creative freedom and sovereignty, we didn’t want to take money from venture capitalists or investors. Therefore we came up with a concept to keep us going while allowing space for our individual lifestyles. We started to take on interesting client projects, this way we continued to build interesting sites & apps.

October 29, 2016 — The journey of how we leveraged WordPress to build our online learning startup, AdvantageLearn.com.

In this session I’ll chat about how a non-developer (me!) is using WordPress to run our click to pay to learn online education company. We manage this through a best of breed compilation of WordPress plugins (most notably Sensei and WooCommerce).

I’ll outline our journey with WordPress thus far through the lens of AdvantageLearn.com noting the challenges, trade-offs, failures and victories to date. It will be an honest account of my learnings as a Non-Dev building and running an online learning business.
