September 30, 2015 — “Content precedes design. Design in the absence of content is not design, it’s decoration.” – Jeffrey Zeldman We’ve all heard that content is king, yet when it comes to designing web experiences we’re still stuck with lorem ipsum and placeholder images, as though the real content didn’t matter. We’re still designing web experiences from the top down, starting with the desktop view of the homepage, even though they’re more likely to be experienced from the bottom up – starting with a content detail page on a mobile device. Designing from the content out means starting with atomic elements of content, and building a system of components and layouts based on the real structure of content.

August 17, 2015 — It’s easy to talk about designing for conversion until you decide you’re really going to do it. What design considerations really do matter for conversion? What’s the role of copy, given these two prevailing (and conflicting!) attitudes:
1. Just make the BUY button big and add a picture of a baby. Nobody reads the copy anyway.
Versus:
2. Copy is everything! If someone really is in the market for your thing, they’ll read everything you have to say! (Just add a video of someone saying the exact same thing at the top, and use LOTS of subheads.)
Take a look at these points of view and more, on the road to converting your lookers to buyers, one press of that blue button* at a time.
August 1, 2015 — It’ll start with explaining what typography is, why it’s important and how, by just investing 10 to 15 minutes, you can make your site more readable and good looking. Since everybody deals with text, this talk would be relevant to all – developers, designers, bloggers and other WordPress users.
