May 26, 2023 — As designers, we have a fundamental role in giving shape to the world that surround us and in defining how we interact with it, and yet the design practice is still perceived as – and often confined to – marginal roles, generally aesthetic, superficial and hardly relevant.

As we know, though, “design is how it works”. Which is why it is growingly important to reiterate, promote, support, and reiterate again how fundamental is to cultivate and promote the value of the culture of the design practice.
Just as it’s important that young designers be aware that this job is more like a mission: a lifetime journey, where, along with talent, one must bring – and cultivate – competences, knowledge, professionalism, ethics, values, and value.

Good people who learnt JS deeply before us have created some nice tools that we can use from the comfort of our PHP, without venturing (much) into the realm of package managers, build processes, compilers, frontend frameworks and other newfangled creatures. And still create beautiful and functional things.

Enabling error logs, inspecting the values of variables during code execution, and looking at the database queries being run are all tools that developers can use to find and fix problems. In this workshop, we’ll dive into some of the options built into WordPress that you have at your disposal, learn about various debugging plugins and their uses, as well as look at one or two third-party tools to consider.

May 25, 2023 — This Hallway Hangout was a casual conversation about building block themes for clients and ways you can curate the Editor experience in WordPress. We also discussed common challenges and pain points, reviewed existing solutions, and identified new improvements to WordPress that would make block theming easier for client work.

The session began with a demonstration of new curation techniques available in WordPress 6.2 followed by a brief review of how to build a starter block theme. If you have begun building block themes for clients or are interested in block theming, this session is especially for you.
