  • Mark Uraine: Design Thinking (thinking like a designer)

WordCamp San Diego 2016Speaker: Mark Uraine

June 6, 2016 — Design Thinking is an alternative approach to the problems we’re working to resolve. It focuses on empathy and asking the right questions (which is normally, “why?”) to explore new solutions that may not initially be so obvious. This talk will review the process of Design Thinking and how it applies to our life and to the problems we face regularly. It’s about putting the user first and producing results that fit the user’s desires, needs, and capabilities. This method is rooted in the discipline of human-centered design and promotes a holistic effort to accomplishing everyday tasks. Come learn why Design Thinking isn’t about designing by committee, but rather an integral part to solid results that are understandable, usable, and purposeful.

  • Tammie Lister: Design Patterns

    WordCamp London 2016Speaker: Tammie Lister

May 29, 2016 — Everything we make has a design pattern underneath. It can be broken down, distilled to patterns. When you think in patterns the design process starts to make sense. From pattern libraries to components and atomic design – I’ll show you in this talk, that whatever you label it, the concept is powerful. A fragmented approach to design goes perfectly with new development potential and gives you a robust workflow for the future.

  • Mary Baum: Wanna End WordPress (design) To Your Will? Register Some Widget Areas!

WordCamp San Diego 2016Speaker: Mary Baum

May 11, 2016 — Are you tired of cranking out the same old header-content-footer web layouts we see? Wonder if a WP page even needs a header, or a footer? Wanna get seriously crazy with page layout in WP? I have two recommendations: 1. Make lots of thumbnail sketches. Then make some more. 2. Master the fine art of registering widget areas. If you can register a set of widget areas, and load them up with graphics, type and images, you can make a WP page look like ANYTHING. You can even make a phone screen look interesting!

WordCamp Lancaster 2016Speakers: Ellen Amaral, Beth Soderberg

April 20, 2016 — Designers and developers are both required to build world-class websites, but sometimes it can feel like a struggle for us to work together in a truly collaborative way. In this session, we’ll share a variety of strategies to bridge the gap between design and development ranging from optimizing workflow between designers and developers with unique skillsets; replacing responsive mockups with side-by-side collaboration; creating clean, grid-based, developer-friendly design files; and developing new layouts and features in a way that respects the original design. We’ll cover these approaches and more as we share the process we use to (happily!) work together as a designer/developer team.

  • Frank Staude: Suche war gestern – Mit Facettierter Navigation schneller zum Ziel

    WordCamp Berlin 2015Speaker: Frank Staude
