January 26, 2015 — Getting started with WordPress Development is a talk exactly as the title states. This talk introduces the basics of getting into development in the WordPress platform itself. This includes examples of code used in WordPress, languages that need to be known, resources to get started, what users need to know about development, and more. This talk also incorporates examples from my experience working with WordPress and learning how to develop on the platform to give the audience a better idea. (This talk can range from beginner to intermediate)

December 23, 2014 — This session was for users who were looking to expand their knowledge of WordPress hooks for theme and plugin development. Ian Wilson walked users through what hooks are, first and foremost, the WordPress core page load (ie when certain hooks fire), the anatomy of the various hook functions, and finally some examples of common ways they are used.

November 24, 2014 — A continuation of a series of “Designing for Development” sessions I’ve given in the past, this talk is geared towards designers by giving designers a peek at what happens after the PSDs have been signed off. Other edge cases will also be explored, such as rebuilds (while maintaining fidelity with existing design). I will also be discussing information infrastructure using Custom Post Types and Custom Metaboxes And Fields, and how a familiarity with them can help aid the design process. Lastly, I will offer advice on knowing when to reach out and partner up with another developer, and how this can work in your favor.
