Adam was faced with these very questions and quickly learned that it’s much easier to contribute than he previously thought. In this session, Adam shares the top five ways in which non-developers can contribute to WordPress—from participating in the WordPress community through support forums, to reviewing documentation and even understanding patches in Core. Adam also shares bonus ways to contribute for those wanting to completely immerse themselves in the WordPress community. Session attendees will learn new ways to get involved and gain a greater understanding of how their participation makes a difference to millions of users worldwide.

July 5, 2016 — Having graduated in Social Design, my ability to merge this field with communication in the world of web puts me in a stimulating position today, but it’s a position not many women know they can reach; especially women of colour – since the tech world is portrayed as a male-dominated industry. I hope to contribute to the growing conversation about how we can make tech more welcoming and accessible for women whose contribution in such fields is often overlooked.

July 3, 2016 — Once you’ve started a WordPress Meetup the early rush of having people show up and participate is great, but once you’ve started, how do you keep building momentum? What are the secrets to having it continue to grow? Are there tools and tricks to keeping things fresh and interesting? This talk will give 7 primary areas to address in planning your meetup for growth and engagement. Melbourne’s meetup group has grown from a single multidisciplinary monthly event into 4 monthly meetups happening across disciplines, diverse groups, and geographic regions. There have been a lot of learning experiences in raising up leaders for this group, and in maintaining its success. I’ll share some of those lessons in the context of this talk.
